Features
PEGDGE (polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ethers) is a water-clear to pale-yellow liquid with two epoxy functions. It flexibilizes bisphenol-A epoxy systems, boosting flexibility, elongation and impact strength. The molecule is water-soluble and readily hydrolyzes; in aqueous media its epoxide rings open to form hydroxyl groups that can bind covalently or non-covalently to proteins.
Applications
• Toughening and reactive-diluent agent for epoxy resins—used in casting compounds, solvent-free coatings, impregnating and trickle resins, and structural adhesives.
• Cellulose finishing agent and cross-linker/surface modifier in the chemical industry.
• Successfully employed for immobilizing glucose oxidase, d-amino-acid oxidase and glutamate oxidase.
• Incorporated into microelectrode biosensors for hydrogen-peroxide and nitric-oxide detection.
